What is the Kirklees Healthy School
Programme?
- The Kirklees Healthy School Programme is part of a National
Programme which aims to help schools become healthier. This is
based on evidence that healthier children perform better academically
and education plays an important role in promoting health, particularly
among those who are socially and economically disadvantaged.
National Healthy School Programme (NHSP)
- The National Healthy School Standard was launched in October
1999. It’s a joint initiative from the Department of Health
and the Department for Children, Schools and Families
- All Local Education Authorities have their own version of the
Healthy School Standard.
- There is a National Healthy School Status (NHSS) Award that schools can achieve. For more information on this log on to www.healthyschools.gov.uk
- The Kirklees Healthy Schools Team can support you in achieving this award
The Kirklees Healthy School Programme (KHSP)
- The KHSP is jointly managed by health and education services
- Suzy Rhodes is the Co-ordinator based in Health with NHS Kirklees. Graham Hofmann is the Education Lead based with the Learning Service, part of Kirklees Council.
- Kirklees has the Kirklees Healthy School Standard Gold (KHSSG) which expands on the National Healthy School Award
