The School nursing service aims to promote and support the health and well-being of all school age children both in schools and in the wider community. Every school in Kirklees has a named school nurse who advises on any health issues.
If a school is working towards the National Healthy Schools Standard, it is important that you include your school nurse. Your school nurse will have access to health data and they can help you to identify health needs in your school so that you can plan your health education appropriately.
School nurses can also provides health education in school. However this should be properly planned and schools should negotiate with school nurses, to ensure their contribution to PSHE ed. specifically relationship and sexual health education (RSHE) is effective and meeting pupil needs.
The school nurse framework will be sent to each school during the summer term. The school should contact the school nurse to arrange a meeting, to review the school nurse contribution to PSHE education and discuss how the nurse will contribute in the following academic year.
