National Healthy Schools Process - An Overview for Schools

School to visit www.healthyschools.gov.uk and login using the username and password

School to contact the Health in Schools team to check when the next Twilight Session is scheduled.

School to set up a task group to work on Healthy Schools. This should include a variety of people such as PSHCE lead, PE lead, parent/governor, pupils and the school caterer. Schools also need to involve the school nurse in the process.

School to work through the online audit and identify gaps to see what areas the school needs to focus on. School also needs to consider what outcomes they would like to see as a result of the Healthy Schools process. This will ensure the process is focused and meaningful.

When all the criteria have been met for each theme, you will be directed back to the main themes page, where you need to enter 2 outcomes for each theme in the boxes.

These should demonstrate the impact of the National Healthy School programme

When 2 outcomes have been filled in for each theme, the School can self-validate online

If you want a member of the Health in Schools team to view your online audit before you self validate the team on Health.Schools-Admin@kirklees.nhs.uk

School's self validation will be considered by local Quality Assessment System (QUAS) - school will be sent a letter informing them of the outcome within one week of the QUAS meeting

Unless any issues are highlighted by the QUAS, school achieves National Healthy School Status. (10% of schools will be chosen to have a half day moderation visit)
