The promotion of positive emotional health and wellbeing helps children and young people to understand and express their feelings, build their confidence and emotional resilience, and therefore increase their capacity to learn.
Healthy Schools should have procedures in place to identify and support vulnerable individuals and groups. There should be clear leadership to create and manage a positive environment which enhances emotional health and well-being in school, including the management of a behaviour and rewards policy.
There should be opportunities for children and young people to understand and explore their feelings as part of the curriculum and a confidential pastoral support system in place for both pupils and staff. Practice and work should be in place to combat stigma and discrimination and there should be a clear policy on bullying which is owned and understood by the whole school community.
