Criteria
A Healthy School:

Minimum evidence

School provides a minimum of 90mins curriculum timer per pupil per week and is working towards the national (PESSCL) target of providing tow hours curriculum timer per pupil per week

  • School timetable
  • School Improvement Plan
  • PESSCEL Survey

Changing facilities are organised in such a way as to show sensitivity towards children's right to privacy  

  • Discussion with Healthy Schools Consultant

When showers are available pupils have free choice of taking a shower or not

  • PA and PE policies - this is clearly outlined

Pupils take part in structured physical activity in appropriate clothing decided through consultation with pupils, parents/carers and staff

  • PA and/or PC policies
  • Discussion with Healthy Schools Consultant as to how and where consultation took place
  • School can show that consideration has been given to cost implications and individual difficulties that might arise and actively works to address any difficulties

The Physical Activity policy and programme includes a clear entitlement for all pupils and respects and values differences i.e. gender, ethnicity, ability, disability and religion

  • A good Physical Activity Programme (in and outside of the curriculum) will ensure that every pupil feels valued and included 
  • Schools will be asked to provide examples of how they address inclusion

The importance of Physical Activity is actively promoted in other areas of school

  1. Within the curriculum
  2. Lunchtime arrangements

 

  1. School can show the importance of Physical Activity featuring in other curriculum areas
  2. School can show that lunchtime arrangements do not restrict pupils access to PA within the school day
